The Reason
Wyatt Tanner had been on the trail for years, so it seemed to him. He had spent several months out in the wilds, having suffered two different Indian attacks and left with nothing of value execpt the horse he rode on. A horse which he would only give up upon death...and somehow the Indians seemed to respect that. They'd left him with a small blade and that was all, so traveling as he was it was a mite difficult to keep both himself and Equinox, his bay, alive.
If you were to ask him why he was making this trek, he probably wouldn't answer you. You would think there was no reason, just some impersonal force that drove him onwards, on and on, slow and crawling when needed but moving ever forward. Toward a small, dusty town he once knew. If he were honest with himself, he could tell you exactly why and what it was that drew him toward that town.
It's too bad he stopped believing, hardly showed his humanity to anyone lately and but seldom spoke a single word even to his horse. Someone, a s

The Pendant

The next morning found Mr. Allen burning up with fever. Rose sent Irene to fetch a couple of water filled skins and, periodically,  go back to the river the idiot had fallen in to refill the water. She wet his bandana and was presently wiping some grime and sweat from around his face. Clint was conscious but not terribly with it. He was lying on his back now, eyes closed tight. Irene was still gone to refresh thier water when Rose started in on bathing his neck. It was rather grimy where his shirt collar met his neck, and she couldn't help but wonder just when the last time he bathed was. Her fingers slipped under the fabic in order to get a particularly stubborn clot of dirt, when her fingers brushed something unexpected.
He was wearing some sort of leather thong or rope around his neck. She couldn't help wondering what it was, why he was wearing it under his shirt. Surely it wasn't some old hang man's nuse or something, right? Curiosity had her following it down, and

It was only about an hour later when Clint started to toss and turn. He kicked his blankets off, which within moments had him shivering. He flopped onto his side and awoke with a low moan. He slowly opened his eyes, head spinning,  and just lay there staring into the fire. How could he lay here resting when Wildfire was out there somewhere,  probably frightened out of her mind? If Gail where here, Wildfire at least knew her enough to be ok with her....and Gail could handle horses fairly well.
Clint felt a slight twinge of pain upon thinking of Gail. Whether it was guilt or sorrow he really couldn't say, but honestly their parting had been kind of long in coming. He had met her whe the elderly couple caring for him after his mother's death could no longer afford to house him - the tax collectors had taken him in lou of payment, and he'd met Gail on a working farm not long after. It was a very hard life, they were rarely treated as anything better than the mules hauling the car

Laura fics 100 days of light
100 days of light - theme: Blood.
Irene really disliked dodge ball.
The feeling,  she felt, was rather mutual. This was evidenced by the fact that Irene was presently leaning against the wall in the women's restroom, pressing a kleenex to her nose. It was bleeding, rather badly, due to the fact she'd been hit smack in the face with a 'rogue' ball. Again. Second time in less than a month, despite the teacher's rule of absolutely no aiming for the face.
Irene sighed and closed her eyes, focusing on keeping up the pressure in efforts to staunch the blood flow. By the end of this school year, she was positive that she was going to become an expert in nosebleeds, like it or not. It really was a creepy feeling she rather wished to avoid, though, that feeling of the warm, wet liquid gushing from a member you'd normally be breathing through.
The sound of approaching footsteps made her open her eyes. It was her friend, Jayla, coming to check up on her most likely. She'd first met Ja

The Brig
The black-hatted indivual settled back into his cell, smirking as he heard the fading click, click of the lieutenant's heels as she left the brig. Ah, but that had been so much fun. When he'd agreed to ferry those weapons for his dealer, about a week ago now, he'd never imagined this. Never in his life had he imagined that smuggling weapons for the Brits and then getting caught for it could be this enjoyable. He didn't normally approve of smuggling opperations, but his situation had changed of late. He'd never made such a long trip with his ship, either, his business normally being closer to home, but he was detirmined to show non-believers that the ol' girl could make it.
And she had, 'til she'd broken down 'bout half-way and then, before he could get her started again, they'd been spotted and put upon by the authorties. British authorties, who when they'd found out this was an American ship, had decided to search it almost right away. Then found out jus' what he was car

16 - Questioning
16. Questioning
Her husband was being awful quiet this morning. Which, considering this was Wyatt we're talking about, wasn't really all that unusual. But there was a difference in his manners today, Jane could tell. He had seemed fine just last night, so what had put his spirits off so much this morning?
Of course, if she'd ask about it he would only deny it. He already ignored the questioning looks she sent him, her concern only seeming to add fuel to his crabby mood. Today was his day off from his deputy work in town. he was planning on staying around his homestead and taking care of things he'd been putting off for the past week.
Wyatt had just finished his second cup of coffee, looking as if he were getting ready to go and start the days work, when he suddenly slumped back into his chair with a sigh.
"...I had a dream." He started, staring, gaze unfocused, at the floor with both his hands still wrapped around his coffee cup. He had a strange look on his face, an expression Jane ha

15. Silence
She'd been fast asleep, but something had awoken her. She stared at the ceiling for a moment, but if it was some sound that had awoken her it did not repeat itself. Turning over and looking at the clock, she noted it was about 2:30 in the morning. She really should be sleeping right now. With a sigh, Rose closed her eyes and settled deeper into the pillow, reaching out a hand to...
Her eyes snapped open, and suddenly she realized what had awoken her. Her hand kept reaching, but the space next to her was empty. As realization swept through her, a cold sinking feeling took hold deep within the pit of her stomach.
No, not again. Not again!
"..Clint?" Rose asked into the darkness, sitting up on the bed as she tried to look around the room. The silence that met her inquiry did nothing to calm her nerves. The rational part of her brain was telling her that this wasn't the same. They had only been married for about a season, now, but Rose would like to say that she knew him fairly well

14 - Smile
"Is thing working?"
"The red light is on, dear. Yes, that means it is working."
"Oh - is that what that red light means?" Clint turns the recorder around to stare at the red light, effectively capturing a nice, unsteady picture of his T-shirt. Rose rolled her eyes, reached for the camera and switched it off quickly, then turned it around in his hands and gave it back to him. He was the one who wanted to do this, so she let him have the lead. But she didn't want him to get minutes of unintended air of himself checking out the camera's red light.
"Okay, now let's try that again, eh?" He said in almost a sing-song voice that caused Rose to smile. It also caused the young man residing in the high chair to let out a happy-sounding gurgle.
"Now that's what I'm talkin' about," Clint let out a soft chuckle and, lifting up the infernal contraction once again, he hit the same button he had as last time that had caused the red light to come forth. And again this second time, it worked. Alas, the

13 - Misfortune
It was bound to happen one day. Clint rode horses for a living, and the one he rode most often, his personal mount, was a very skiddish female. To be truthful, it really was amazing it hadn't happened before now. Well...at least, not yet happened on the island anyway.
Clint Allen had the misfortune of being kicked on the shoulder by a horse. His horse, actually. He'd been out checking on some of the stock and, apparently thinking about something else because he hadn't been paying any attention like he should've, he'd come up behind her too close and too quickly and got rewarded with a sound kick.
It'd knocked him down, knocked the wind out of him for near two full minutes. By the time his sluggish mind had come to the realization of what had actually happened, why he was lying staring at the sky and why his shoulder hurt so dang much, a little over five minutes had passed. During which time his old friend and partner-in-crime, Wyatt, had noticed his friend's misfortune and had ridden o

12 - Insanity
This was insanity.
There was no other word for it, really. Here he was - a man who could barely swim and who hated to be 'cooped up' - on a two season-long world cruise. Meaning most of the time they would be on the water, with no stops, no chance of him getting off and onto stable ground to stretch his wobbly non-sea legs.
Yep, insanity about summed it up.
"There you are, darling!" A woman's voice broke through the dark thoughts of the man who, coincidentally, was clad in all black, from his black hat to his black cowboy boots. He turned to the speaker, one hand still clutching the railing, while she walked up to him, took in his appearance, and leaned in under the illusion of fixing his collar. She was clad in trouser pants and a nice matching blouse.
"We still have time to back out of this, if you are not up for it..." She breathed an airy laugh that made him grin, in spite of himself. He knew she was laughing at him and his land-loverness, he must be as transparent as glass

Spring Time Treat
It was Spring time in the newly formed community of Buffalo Creek Bay. The crop of strawberries that Mrs. Ames had planted behind her husband's store had come in, quite a bountiful harvest actually. After having had her children's help in picking bucket after bucket full of the sweet treats, Hanna was having a little trouble in figuring out what to do with so many berries before they went bad. There were just so many! Assuredly, she would be giving some away, but what about the rest... Just handing them a bucket of strawberries didn't feel special enough. She wished to do something for the children of the town, something special to make their little faces all light up. But what?
Mr. Robert Ames, Hanna's husband, had come up with a pretty nifty solution to this little problem. He suggested some simple, home-made ice cream. Hanna quite liked the idea, planning to surprise the children after Sunday services. After procuring all the other ingredients that they would need, Hanna cut up the

Rocky Mountain High
"Edward, get back in your OWN seat!" Eight year-old Rose demanded of her five year old brother, who had, for the third time at least, tried to climb over her in order to get a better look out the window. They were presently driving through the North American country side and the youngest member of the Thomas family wanted to see this new and different country, too. Turning away from stuffing her brother back into his seat, Rose looked out the window once more and conceded that, truthfully, it wasn't as different as she would have thought.
Things were kinda more spread out though it seemed; they'd been driving forever and still no houses in sight yet! The Thomas family had decided to take a rare two-week vaction away from the norm and come out to this small, up-and-coming yet prestigious dude ranch just within the borders of the state of Wyoming, but with a wonderful view of the Rockies.  It would indeed be a wild and fun place, but it was known for its catering to people of m

13 - By the Light of the Fire
"'Don't need no help,' he says." Rose grumbled as she shoved another branch into the fire. "'Thanks but no thanks.'" she continued to mumble to herself as she stirred the fire. Sighing, she paused to glare over at the man she had been quoting. He still had not awoken nor moved at all, not even a twitch. Honestly, she was starting to get a little worried.
Grabbing a stick (that did not come from the fire) she proceeded to lean over and poke at his boot. This warranted no response. So, she frowned and tried a little harder, this time poking his leg. She even went so far as to poke at his shoulder with the stick. Still nothing. Leaning back with a huff, she winced as her ankle protested movement. Her feet were going numb as well, lovely.
Glancing up again she noticed Irene had already fallen asleep, wrapped up in a blanket. Sighing quietly to herself, she scooted a little closer to the fire, as close as she could reasonably get, and settled in for a long night.
Hours later - she didn't kn

12- Misadventures in the Night

Clint could hear the pounding of hooves behind him and knew he was being followed. Had Tanner and the others really caught up that quickly? Casting a glance over his shoulder, in the limited light he could see a horse with two riders on it. That couldn't be Tanner... Ah! It must be Miss Roseayle and her young charge following him. Frowning as he turned back around, he decided to do his best to shake them. They had no business running blindly after a Wanted man like him.
Silently he apologized to his lovely horse as he forced her abrubtly to the left, and so they made a quick turn. No trees in their direct path, Clint glanced over his shoulder once more, hoping he'd lost them. Not so, though, for he heard them skid a little but they made the turn. Clint grunted and turned around once more, hoping to pick up speed on this straightaway. He proceeded to make several more abrupt turns and quick changes in his path, but he could not shake them. He just didn't understand why they were ch

Here I'm just attempting to be keeping track of my little series I've got going with Clint and Rose... I still don't have a name for it yet, but it's done for the 100 days of light, and as I have already done some of those not involving the series, I want to list the series here by tens or fives of the entries to try and help limit any confusion. =X
